Correctional Lighting

A kinetic mobile that uses the buzz and glare of a highway lamp to create a feeling of surveillance as it follows an invisible figure (cinderblock), casting larger-than-life shadows on the wall. Something mundane becomes ominous, replicating the police state through a beamed light.

I was interested in using the material and sound of a sodium light bulb as technology that was intended to provide visibility through brightness, but instead sets up a prevalence of fear. The movement of the lamp lacerates space in its circular pursuit of capture. The amplified buzz becomes an aggressive presence.
